The Mild Climate Around Merano

The mild climate found in and around Merano began attracting spa tourists back at the beginning of the twentieth century. In fact, the most sunshine hours per year can be found atop the Monzoccolo Plateau around Avelengo, Verano and Merano 2000.

In this area, affectionately known as Merano’s Sun Terrace, spring has already arrived by April and winter doesn’t really set in until December. Even winter is mild on Monzoccolo so the plateau is home to an impressive array of flora and fauna.

The panoramic view of the mountains is spectacular in every season: the vistas are high definition, especially in fall and spring. Summer is ideal for excursions on the high plateau, where alpine roses, spruce trees, and larches thrive just a few hundred metres above oleanders and apple trees. The mild climate also makes a wide array of winter hikes possible in winter. The sun terraces of most mountain huts and restaurants are thus open even throughout the cold season.
