The Postal - Verano Cable Car

Verano is a real hiking paradise today. You can reach Verano from the village of Postal, between Merano and Bolzano, in just eight minutes by cable car.

Life in Verano was not always easy. Even as recently as fifty years ago, it was tough to make a living up on the Monzoccolo Plateau. The trip into the valley was difficult to negotiate, whether undertaken on foot or on the back of a Haflinger horse. For economic and political reasons, it was not until 1958 that it was possible for the first passenger cable car between Postal and Verano to begin operations. The suspended cable car can carry 12 people, and runs 2,1115 metres into the valley, with an altitude differential of 930 meters.

The funicular was completely renovated in the year 2000. The supports were replaced, and the stations were rebuilt and made accessible to the disabled. The old cabs were resigned after 40 years of service and replaced by new, contemporary ones that meet all modern requirements and safety standards. Today, the Verano cable car is one of the most modern and innovative in Europe.
