Avelengo: a Holiday on a Sunny Plateau

Avelengo lies on a sunny plateau above Merano. The celebrated Haflinger horse is named after the German-language name for the village: Hafling.

The village, which has 730 inhabitants, ranges from 1,250 to 1,600 metres in altitude and is divided into four districts: Avelengo Village, Santa Caterina, Avelengo Paese di Sopra, and Falzeben/Merano 2000. Once a popular summer resort for city residents, Avelengo is year-round holiday destination for families today, and offers a wide variety of activities.

Location

Avelengo is a village located on Monzoccolo, the mountain ridge between Merano and Bolzano, and is situated only 10 kilometres from the spa town of Merano.

Its central location offers unique panoramic views of the surrounding mountains: Mount Ortler and the Texel Mountains to the west, the Ötztal Alps to the north, the Brenta Mountains to the south, and the Dolomites to the east.

Accessibility

Avelengo is easily and quickly accessible from Merano via a scenic road that is also passable in winter.
