Riding in the Winter / Haflinger Horses on the Monzoccolo Plateau

The famous Haflinger horses are named after the village of Hafling on the sunny plateau above Meran.

Today the town is easily accessible; in the past, though, the tough Haflinger horses were of great importance for the villages since the area could be reached only via mule tracks for a long time. The sturdy mountain horses thus attained their greatest distribution here.

Riding in Winter

Exploring the white glittering winter wonderland of the plateau on the back of a Haflinger horse is a unique experience. Whenever the weather is nice—even throughout the winter—you can book riding lessons, day rides and guided trail rides at the stables. There are supervised rides, sample courses, and ponies to pet: all set up especially for the kids.

A magical sleigh ride through the wintry forest is an unparalleled winter experience for all who don’t ride themselves, children in particular.
